For the last 15 years I have referred to my groups as Emotional Release groups. However, I have come to realize that they are so much more than what that name implies. My groups are more like a celebration of our lives and memories. Together we create a sacred space for our emotions and feelings to have a voice that can be heard, seen, danced, felt, cuddled and caressed.
The other night someone told me about an adverse experience she had at an emotional release group. I was curious and also saddened by what she experienced. Her response to that experience started me thinking about the intensity and fear that so many people have around witnessing and expressing emotions. I have spent 40 years of my life exploring, expanding and cultivating a SAFE way to inhabit my body. This has translated into a deep desire to teach, share and mostly model these techniques to you.
My history and background while growing up was not one of safety, nurturing or emotional health. I look at these experiences as a blessing because they paved the way for my life’s work. I have spent these years cultivating and perfecting techniques to bring safety, love, nurturing and mostly fun to my own emotional life. And that translates into bringing that to you.
In my groups I teach and model a way for you to connect and become familiar with and close to those dark/shadow parts of yourself. Those parts that want to stay hidden but show up anyway. You might be thinking- what parts are they? Repression of words or actions, ill health, lack of enthusiasm, diagnosis, symptoms, etc. I can help you to bring those parts into consciousness, allowing a light to shine on them and be revealed and loved for what they are. Scared, fearful younger parts of the psyche that continue to hold you back while making you think they are really who you are.
I like to think of my groups as a place where you can come home to yourself. The Self that had to remain hidden for fear of what might or what did happen to you. I create a space where all is possible.
I know how fragile and scary raw emotions can be. I have come to learn that these are the seeds to our existence. When you don’t take the time to nurture and water those seeds they do not flourish. This is how disease and despair can take over. My groups and private sessions help you to flourish and grow in a conscious and healthy way. And we do this with a lot of laughter and fun as well as tears, grief, fear and sorrow.
I recently read this statement: Joy threatens Unconsciousness! Wow…
